The following are several growth and learning opportunities for church leaders, clergy and laity, across the district. Each workshop will be 45 MINUTES in length and will be offered twice (so you can choose 2 to attend to maximize your learning).

Are we a Safe, Welcoming, and Sacred Place?
(Recommended for trustees, hospitality, ministry area leaders, and clergy)
Every church should be weloming and inviting but also safe, sacred and secure for all who enter. This workshop, led by Ross Robinson, will explore the tension between providing safety and hospitality in and around our church buildings.

Communicating the Message
(Recommended for ministry area leaders, clergy and anyone who wants to spread the word about ministries in your church)
District Communication Strategist, Shonnie Streder, will lead a conversation on where to start when building a communication strategy for your congregation. We will cover important steps and mediums used in strategic communication to connect others to your message and ministries.

Checkpoints for Affordable and Sustainable Ministry
(Recommended for finance committee members, ministry area leaders, and clergy)
Susan Cothern from the United Methodist Foundation will provide helpful information about resources and approaches to better ensure financial health and sustainable ministries for your congregation.

Nurturing the Call of Laity
(Recommended for Pastor Parish Relations members, ministry area leaders, clergy –and anyone desiring to strengthen their discipleship and calling)
District Superintendent and Chief Missional Strategist, Rev. Beth Crissman, will lead this workshop on how to nurture the call of ALL laity through pathways for discipleship formation.

Gracious Accountability
(Recommended for all laity, clergy and ministry area leaders)
Ron Ballard, Encourager of Wesleyan Accountability Groups, will facilitate conversation about how to begin Gracious Accountability groups rooted in our Wesleyan tradition that help each of us stay connected with God, one another and our calling as disciples.

Is Single Governance Structure Right for Us?
(Recommended for church council members, ministry area leaders, and clergy)
Would you like to have more people SERVING in ministry than SITTING on committees?
Church Vitality Strategist, Rev. Rob Parsons, will explore the Single Governance Structure as a viable option for churches to maximize laity and clergy time and efforts to lead the church in ways that foster collaborative communications and free people’s time and efforts for ministry.

Fresh Expressions
(Recommended for ministry area leaders, clergy and anyone interested in beginning a new Fresh Expression)
For over 20 years, the Fresh Expressions movement has helped established congregations form new church communities precisely for people who may never come on a Sunday.  Rev. Luke Edwards, WNCC Coordinator for Fresh Expressions, will facilitate conversation around how to begin Fresh Expressions across the Blue Ridge District.
