Basic Course ($30) 21 available

In the Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course, you will discuss processes to help individuals discern and respond to God’s particular call on their lives. You will be encouraged to recognize and employ his or her spiritual gifts for the church to become what God intended it to be. This course invites participants to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in discipleship. It offers guidelines for optimal communication in leadership and presents numerous types of ministries in which lay servants may assume roles. Throughout the study, thoughtful questions provide excellent opportunities for individual consideration and group discussion.

Each one a Minister "Rediscovering Our Spiritual Gifts" (Spiritual Gifts Category) ($30) 9 available

This course engages the reader in discovering the meaning of church, ministry and gifts - from the early church up to the present. As a follow-up to the Bible study, readers and study groups look at ways in which Gods gifts are practical as well as spiritual. Four ministry categories, closely connected to the congregational primary task (receive, relate, equip, send), are identified. Scripture readings, activities and ways to implement specific ministries are suggested. Designed to encourage individuals to discover Gods call to ministry in their own lives, Each One a Minister leads toward practical ways of using gifts in ministries in our congregations and in our communities. An ideal resource for clergy, lay leaders, study groups and others seeking to identify and use their gifts in meaningful ways*Please remember that you have to take the Basic Course before you can take any Advanced Course.

Advanced Course: Shaping the Prayers of the People: The Art of Intercession "Public Prayer" (Leading Prayer Category) ($30) 8 available

This course offers a model of profound and accessible congregational prayer. At once inspirational and practical, it will empower and equip laypeople and clergy alike to offer heartfelt, informed, and appropriate prayers on behalf of the people of God. As Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher say, "Interceding in public worship is a duty. This book is intended to make it a joy."

Shaping the Prayers of the People begins by considering what public prayer is and offering practical guidelines for avoiding common pitfalls. It explores prayer as an integral part of worship and discusses the language we need (and don't need) to address God. Significantly, the book also provides an array of example prayers along with commentary.
